Scott Norton is a scholar and researcher of tea. He has been an active participant in the tea industry for the past two decades, helping to start up countless tea shops across the United States, working with tea farmers in East Asia and sourcing teas from Korea, Japan, and China. He is a practitioner of Chaozhou gong fu cha (lit. "skill and challenge of tea" in the manner regionally-specific to northeastern Guangdong province), as well as Japanese chanoyu and Korean Seon tea preparation. In addition to his work in the tea industry, he actively collaborates with artists, most recently with the China-based contemporary artist collective the Yangjiang Group for their tea art performance/installation work Unwritten Rules Cannot Be Broken (2016), part of the 2016-2017 Guggenheim exhibition Tales of Our Time. Scott Norton is an active writer and blogger, most notably writing "Scotttea", a tea-focused blog outlining tea history, culture, and practice. He has been featured in Food & Wine Magazine, most recently with the 2017 article "Everything You Need to Know About Oolong Tea".
